Military protection provided for the chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Mrs. Jean Mensah have raised debates in the country with many persons questioning why she has been provided with military protection.
Some persons have argued that Mrs. Jean Mensa should have been provided with Police Protection and not Military Protection because it is not the duty of the Military to provide “interior Protection” for Citizens and Government officials.
Justifying the need to provide Mrs. Jean Mensah with military protection, Lawyer Gabby Otchere-Darko stated that she deserves to be protected by the military because her life has been threatened multiple times.
In a post, Lawyer Asare Gabby Otchere-Darko said;
“This woman, the returning officer for the presidential election, has had her life threatened multiple times from all manner of corners, her character insulted, her integrity denigrated and the threats to her life heightened to the highest dangerous point that any public servant should endure, for the security services to consider it appropriate to offer her the highest form of protection they could.
Her security at home, office and around her 24-7, is made up of a combination of soldiers and police. I am not sure she enjoys the security attention. But she understands she has to endure it. And, some of us have a problem with that?”
As a citizen of Ghana, do you think the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Mrs Jean Mensa should be provided with military protection or Police Protection…
