BACKGROUND

The Electoral Commission of Ghana declared the New Patriotic Party’s Presidential candidate Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the winner of the 7th December, 2020 Presidential election.

After the declaration of then candidate Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo as President elect, the NDC’s Presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama rejected the results.

According to John Dramani Mahama, he rejected the results of the Presidential election because the election is flawed.

However, President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo was inaugurated on 7th January, 2021 according to laws of the country in the presence of only New Patriotic Party Members of Parliament as the National Democratic Congress’ Members of Parliament boycotted the inauguration ceremony.

According to the NDC MPs, they boycotted the swearing in of President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo because their party and their Presidential candidate have filled a case at the Supreme Court challenging the results of the election.
