CSOs will independently start tabulating & auditing the disputed Techiman South Polls – Bright Simons

The Vice-President at IMANI, Mr. Bright Simons says the Civil Society Movement will independently start tabulating and auditing the disputed Techiman South Polls.

The name ‘Techiman South Constituency’ has become very famous in the country due to the contentions with the results of the Parliamentary election which was held in the Constituency on 7th December, 2020.

As the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary candidate has been declared the winner of the Techiman South Constituency seat by the Electoral Commission, the National Democratic Congress also claims that the results of the election was not collated and that their candidate has won the Techiman South Constituency seat.

According to Mr. Bright Simons, the Civil Movement will start tabulating and auditing the disputed Techiman South pink sheets since the Electoral Commission of Ghana has refused to show professionalism and institutional maturity.

In a tweet, Mr. Bright Simons wrote;

Since the Ghanaian Electoral Commission refuses to show professionalism & institutional maturity, sections of the country’s Civil Society Movement will independently start tabulating & auditing the disputed Techiman South polls (pink sheets). TRUST CSOs to do a MORE thorough job.

BACKGROUND

According to the New Patriotic Party, their Parliamentary candidate for the Techiman South Constituency obtained 49,824 and the National Democratic Congress obtained 49,205 which shows that they (NPP) have won the Parliamentary seat.

On the other hand, the National Democratic Congress says the Parliamentary results of the Techiman South Constituency is yet to be collated and that the pink sheets available to them from the various Polling Stations in the Constituency shows that their candidate obtained 50,306 and as against that of the New Patriotic Party’s candidate who obtained 50,013 votes.
