2020 Election Petition: Rockson Dafeamekpor questions the deployment of Soldiers inside the Supreme Court room

Hon. Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor who is the Member of Parliament for the South Dayi constituency has questioned the deployment of Soldiers inside the Supreme Court during the ongoing hearing of the 2020 election Petition.

Hon. Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor’s party’s 2020 Presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama filled a petition at the supreme Court of Ghana challenging the results of the 2020 Presidential election as declared by the Electoral Commission.

The proceedings of Mr. John Dramani Mahama’s election petition is currently being heard by the Supreme Court of Ghana.

During the hearing which is currently ongoing, some Soldiers were spotted in the supreme Court Chamber.

In a tweet on Tuesday 19th January, 2020 Hon. Nelson Rockson Dafeamekpor has questioned what is going on in the country and why Soldiers have been deployed inside the Supreme Court during the ongoing trial.

“So Soldiers have been deployed inside the Supreme Court during a trial? What at all is going on in this country?” the South Dayi lawmaker quizzed.

Following these comments made by the lawmaker, some Citizens have been reacting.

Since when did appearance of army officers signify there’s something going on in this country. Concentrate on your mistake ridden petition. Your attempt to create a chaos smoke screen will not stand.

@cdakurah said “It always has. Military presence in mundane police work implies the police are overwhelmed or not trustworthy to perform their duties. Worst still, it erodes respect for the police service. So if there happens to be an arrest where would the person be sent? Court Marshal anaa??”

@_asantewaa_xx    also added that “Officers were deployed in the Supreme Court even during the 2016 election petition.. this is not the first time.. they’re there for the security of the Supreme Court Justices!”
